Words of love

Romantic or Sentimental?

To avoid too many amalgamations and facilitate your searches, we have indexed practically the same pieces under the terms “romantic” or “sentimental,” with the nuance that, for us, romantic music primarily represents the movement of classical music from the 19th century (which does not mean that some pieces are not sentimental and vice versa). Therefore, under the term sentimental, you will first find contemporary music (composed today) that we qualify as sentimental, and further down in the results, a few romantic pieces from the 19th century that we also consider “sentimental.” Under the term romantic, there will be a reference to 19th-century music, but also the word romantic treated as a synonym for sentimental.

Passionate or Poignant?

Music with passionate accents is strong and powerful, the notes are emphasized and flowing. It is serious and solemn; tangos represent Passion, embodying what love cannot contain and expressing the desires of the heart without limit. When sadness or pain mingles with passion, the music becomes poignant. The nuance is subtle, of course, as several emotions can often coexist in the same music, but the impact of dramatic chords in a poignant piece is easily recognizable (if one can say so), and the strokes of the bow quickly turn into tears, the vibratos into tremors!

Sentimental or Sensual?

Sentimental music is always meant to be moving and gentle, gliding from one note to another without jarring or roughness. It can sometimes be a bit excessive, naïve, and full of good sentiments, approaching with its sweet strings, never raising its voice. Sensual music is that of slow dances that one wishes would never end, soft voices whispering sweet words in the ear, under the dim light of a dinner for two, or certain exotic sounds that inspire one to sway, to unfold one’s body, to get close to another.
